Abstract
Introduction. Medical education requires a comprehensive evaluation system aimed at developing the skills developed during the undergraduate degree, mainly clinical competence through clinical reasoning and judgment.
Objective. Explain how an evaluation system of Clinical competence based on the principles of the OSCE emerged.
Method. The Mexican School of Medicine of the La Salle University in Mexico in 2015 began the design of an evaluation system that would comprehensively assess all aspects related to the learning of medical students, which would allow knowing the development of clinical competence in student. It was based on the concepts of the OSCE adding two more modules: a theoretical exam related to clinical stations and a self-evaluation module through demonstrative videos elaborated ex profeso, a system that we have named “Systematic Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation (ECIS). This paper describes the process of generation and development of the ECIS and an example of an experience is presented.
Results. Its structure has made it possible to carry out this evaluation procedure, in person, during the last five years. It allows evaluating skills in questioning and physical examination, clinical reasoning and allows the student to discover their strengths and weaknesses.
Conclusions. The ECIS comprehensively assesses the Clinical Competence of students.
