Abstract

Job recognition causes satisfaction that allows the worker to be happier in his/her job. In addition, this can be considered as a technique that allows attracting, retaining and making talented workers more productive. But what happens when there are different generations with different characteristics, tastes, abilities and interests? This can cause great problems and risks for leaders by not properly motivating their talent. The objective of this article is to analyze the preferences of the librarians belonging to the La Salle University Library Network in Mexico regarding aspects of recognition and monetary and non-monetary benefits offered by each university. For this, the evaluation of 70 librarians of the different levels was analyzed, divided by the generation to which they belong in order to identify the job recognition that library collaborators experience. The results indicate for all generations the importance of having a good work environment, even almost equaling the importance of social security. On the other hand, for generation X the benefit of Opportunity for growth in the university has a significant relevance while for the other generations it is not.
