Ganadería de libre pastoreo: una revisión crítica de los argumentos utilitaristas y holísticos en favor de comer animales

En el presente artículo se analizan algunos aspectos sobre la ética al comer animales en contextos de libre pastoreo. En primer lugar, se revisa un argumento utilitarista, propuesto por Bruckner, según el cual es permisible comer animales criados en contextos de libre pastoreo, siempre y cuando estos sean reemplazados por otros con los mismos niveles de felicidad. En segundo lugar, se explora la perspectiva holística de Scruton, en la que es permisible comer animales de libre pastoreo solo si al hacerlo fomentamos las virtudes de la benevolencia y la compasión. Posteriormente, se muestra por qué se deben rechazar estos argumentos. El texto termina con un esbozo respecto a casos muy puntuales en los que puede ser permisible el consumo de otros animales.
