Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht is one of the main figures of the contemporary theory of history. His work focuses on the problem of historical writing, its theoretical and metaphysical framework founded on the problem of narrative and discourse. The principal concept that Gumbrecht elaborates is called production of presence. This historiographic operability is conceived as a reaction toward traditional and representational metaphysics. The aim of this article is to sketch out a general approach to his theory from the basis of an absence of historiography, as well as the non-hermeneutical approach in his presence perspective in order to glimpse the theoretical and philosophical future of historiography.
