The current work seeks to clarify the limits of a concept used by Kant in the Critic of Judment (KU). Matter (materie) is a fun- damental concept to understand nature. This specific concept allows Kant to consider nature as a system of ends. However, this concept is treated in the Critic of Pure Reason (KrV) as a substantia phaenomenon. What is then matter? That is the ques- tion that leads the current investigation. To answer such ques- tion the KrV will be the first source of investigation. In this first section it is shown how the determinant judgement limits the knowledge that it is possible to possess of matter. Afterwards, the problematic use that matter has in the KU will be develo- ped. This problematic use of matter is not contradictory nor is it trivial; it is the result of the reflective judgment. Finally, the con- sequences of this particular concept are related to the teleologi- cal consideration of nature that Kant proposes.
