Abstract

Institutions of Higher Education have the responsibility to develop leaders capable of promoting change strategies to help organizations innovate, compete successfully, and address the challenges that emerge from the current economic and social context. The Leadership Practices Inventory is widely used in organizations to assess five transformational leadership competencies: 1. Model the way 2. Inspire a shared vision,3. Challenge the process 4. Enable others to act 5. Encourage the heart. This study examines the structure of the LPI, Spanish version, through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). A sample of 309 graduate students in northwestern Mexico was surveyed. Results suggests that the LPI in its Spanish version measures two factors of transformational leadership: 1. Charismatic Leadership and 2. Adaptive Leadership. The main contribution of the study is the adaptation of the LPI in its Spanish version with graduate students in Mexico.
