Sustainable Alternative for the Construction of Mezzanine Slabs using Wood and Concrete
Main Article Content
Abstract
The experimental result of the proposal of a mezzanine slab made of wood and concrete that can be used in office buildings is presented. This type of construction system enhances the properties of wood and concrete and together a better product is obtained in terms of strength, aesthetics, functionality and sustainability. The transformed section method was used to propose the slab section; class 2 concrete mix was designed using lightweight coarse aggregate. A real-scale prototype was built and a load was applied, obtaining the load-deflection, stress-deflection and load-stress curves. Satisfactory results were obtained when comparing design, service and applied loads. An analytical procedure is presented that supports the design of mezzanine slabs and a basic criterion for possible applications in wooden constructions.
