Determinantes socio económicos del éxito olímpico: potencia económica y desempeño deportivo
Keywords:
Olympic games, economic development, fixed effects, unbalanced panelAbstract
This study examines the relationship between economic and demographic factors and Olympic performance and success. Unlike other studies, it analyze an extended period of time covering the years from 1960 to 2024, encompassing multiple editions of the Olympic Games within an unbalanced panel data structure. Using fixed-effects regression models, we corroborate that the structure of individual Olympic superiority has not varied over time and that it is heavily dependent on country-specific political and social factors. Finally, we achieve an accurate prediction of individual participation in the total medal count across time and different geographies.
