Scope and limitations of digital technology in mexican agriculture
Main Article Content
Abstract
This manuscript elucidates the potential use of digital tools by agricultural producers as part of an urgent technological innovation process in the face of poverty and climate change. A bibliographic review was carried out using keywords on platforms for consulting scientific sources and on websites. 74% of the sources consulted correspond to the period 2015-2021, the information obtained was systematized and analyzed thematically. Information of a quantitative nature such as the number of producers or agriculture areas that are currently using this type of technology is not considered in the analysis since it was not accessed. The results indicate that agricultural work is carried out in conditions of greater uncertainty, so access to digital technology is a means to access valuable information for the design and implementation of strategies that allow adaptation to climate change, management practices more sustainable, inclusion in traditional and alternative markets, and sharing knowledge and knowledge. This research is important because it presents digital technology as a means to face the conditions of production and diminished productivity in local contexts. Consequently, digital technology applied to agricultural work, particularly for the poorest Mexican producers, can become a means of capacity development, reconstruction of the social fabric, and agricultural development. This requires considering physical, social, and cultural barriers, as well as leaving aside a logic-based solely on economic rationality.
