Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the influence of nine variables that describe the specific financial characteristics of banks, six macroeconomic variables and one capital market variable on the stock prices of banks listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange for the period from 2011 to 2021. Using the least squares multiple regression statistical method, only seven bank-specific and two macroeconomic variables were found to have statistically significant effects on stock prices. Two variables had the greatest influence on stock prices: the size of the bank and the size of the loan portfolio, which means that the larger the banks on the one hand and the greater the amount of loans granted to different economic agents on the other, the higher the stock price will tend to rise.
