Promotion of active and healthy aging: Challenges and perspectives
Keywords:
Older adults, active and healthy aging, health promotion, dignified nutritionAbstract
Rapid demographic aging implies a challenge as it presents an enormous diversity of health
and functionality states among elderly, which, despite them reflect physiological changes,
these are not uniform over time and are manifested themselves heterogeneously between each
individual, since they depend on intrinsic and extrinsic factors, impacting both quality of life
and health. One of the most relevant aspects for the promotion of active and healthy aging is
given by aspects that reinforce adequate and dignified nutrition as a human right and a pillar
of self-care and prevention. However, concerns persist regarding the social perception of
aging, gender inequality and food security, which require intersectorial actions and
comprehensive public policies, forcing us to identify and address those social obstacles
based on obsolete stereotypes that allow us to formulate and implement effective models
aimed to promote active, healthy and dignified aging.
