Review of social care policies in Mexico City
Keywords:

Care is a central concept for social policy depending on the nature of social models of
provision. From this perspective, the document describes the way in which the State provides
care through policies and actions on the matter. Likewise, it circumscribes the social policies
of care in a model of social intervention established to face social development. It also
compares social care policies in Mexico with an international benchmark such as the Welfare
State in Sweden. The aim of the paper is to describe the main responses of the State to provide
care in CDMX. The analysis of social policies around care suggests a mixed intervention
model with an inclination towards the Welfare State. In general, it is characterized by the
direct provision of services and direct monetary transfers, which can contribute to
dependency to reduce inequality, based on targeting. In any case, the incipient care system
of the CDMX seems to address not only symptoms of inequality, but also goes further and
focuses on the causes.
