Main Article Content
Abstract
We present the analysis of the first stages in the construction of the City of Oaxaca as a tourism product, using the past and indigenous culture. We will refer to the discovery of the tomb 7 of Monte Alban in 1931, the "Tribute Racial" in 1932 and the consolidation of the Guelaguetza in 1950. We'll see how it raises an revaluation of pre-Hispanic and Indian culture in the city of Oaxaca, which indicates a society's cultural homogenization under the ideally desirable in the international tourism market. The decisive influence of these moments in the development of tourism in the City impacted its urban development. Since then, the city will experience a process that would lead to become a "museum city".
