Abstract
In supporting the processes of selection of resident physicians, personality factors were constant long term and that relate to the performance of physicians were considered. The next models were adapted to these conditions: The five-factor model of personality and Jung's theory of psychological types. The study was to determine the correlations between these personality factors and performance competency (knowledge, skills and attitudes) of medical residents at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología in Mexico City by means of the two models and 360 degree evaluation. It was found that knowledge alone showed correlation with the feeling (r = -0.39, P < 0.001) and thought (r = -0.24, P < 0.05), skills with the responsibility (0.33, P < 0.01) and neuroticism (r = -0.27, P < 0.05) and attitudes with the cordiality (r = 0.26, P < 0.05).
