Proximity of management decisions to Humanist University Social Responsibility
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research assessed the proximity of the managerial decisions of a university in Mexico towards humanist university social responsibility. A social survey of 92 managers was carried out. An instrument was designed that obtained a reliability coefficient of 0.8059. Descriptive statistics and econometric modeling were used. A conceptual model was obtained from which an index of proximity to the humanist university social responsibility was derived. The strength in the decisions is when considering the institutional mission and the weakness in the evaluation of the decisions. The University obtained 5.4 points out of 10 possible. From the model and instrument designed, it was possible to assess, on a Likert scale, the proximity of the decisions to the humanist university social responsibility, and complement the traditional models of social responsibility management. Universities contribute to sustainable development if they manage their managerial decisions with a humanistic approach, that is, that the decisions seek: involvement with the reality of the environment; having reference frameworks with a humanistic and social benefit approach; undertaking advocacy actions and develop effective accountability mechanisms, transparency indicators; and the incorporation of all stakeholders in the evaluation processes, prioritizing students, beneficiary communities and internal collaborators.
