The park cooling island effect in arid conditions. A remote sensing perspective 870
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to explore a preliminary conformation for the estimation of the Park Cooling Island phenomenon in Juarez, Mexico. The paper also presents an automata map of surfaces to show the effect of urban greenspace on the surface thermal environment via remote sensing, thus identifying the areas where the Park Cooling Island is most relevant. The study area was in the urban greenspaces of Juarez, Mexico. Landsat 8 satellite images were used. ERDAS IMAGINE 14.0 is the algorithm to determine surface temperature estimation and to process Landsat 8 satellite data. In addition, ArcMap 10.8.1 was adopted for temperature estimation. The results reveal that two areas: Parque Central and Club Campestre manage to regulate the temperature by up to 13°C, in relation to their surroundings. Through the study, it is possible to conclude about the importance of thermal regulation in the city and the importance of urban parks as providers of thermal regulation services.
